Most Americans do not really understand how our economic system works. The reason knowing this is important is that it has a huge effect on our net worth, housing prices, well being, and whether your children and grand children will survive or fail. Everything that happens of importance to all of us for good or bad depends on how well we understand our system of predatory capitalism and the reasons we need to change it to help make the bottom 99 percent of Americans live a "good" life. Katrina disaster failure was not stupidity, but exploited to get rid of Blacks, Public Housing (Good Shape, but destroyed to make room for corporations), fired all teachers, and even retaining wall made so it would have to fail during a category 2-3 storm. That is the big secret, Katrina by the time it reached New Orleans was not a category 4, but may have been even a 2.
Yes, Goldman Sachs helped Greece collapse by designing debts hidden beyond that allowed by the European Union.
We are being controlled by all our debts and corporate Healthcare as are the people in the Developing World. We are kept from really understanding how many great reforms are in the Obama Healthcare Bill because so many of us are ignorant and fall prey to the corporate press/media propaganda and so-called facts. Also Massachusetts voted for a Republican not because they hated the Healthcare, but the corporate press/media keeps repeating the lie that it was healthcare that did it.
Many do not understand that Bush/Cheney and their gang of thieves actually knew what they were doing. Lots of what Bush did including the way he talked was an act as most corporate press/media folks knew well but neglected to inform us. They were following the University of Chicago predatory capitalism model as designed by Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman.
The Shock Doctrine as explained by Naomi Klein and The Value of Nothing and Stuffed-and-Starved by Raj Patel who have a very revealing conversation about how our system works. It is well worth the 90 minutes session. Raj Patel's Stuffed-and-Starved is when I first became aware of his brilliance. You will understand how they made Americans sick for profit. Now days it is false economy not to have broad band internet even if you can only afford to get the very cheap ones. They are good enough for C-Span and Democracy Now videos.
As some of you may suspect, I have been cutting down my Internet use and e-mail so I can spend more time reading both fiction and non-fiction which are really the best sources to understand what is actually happening.
My opening page is Democracy Now. My goal has always been to understand and not get trivial information which is dominant in e-mails and in the various social networks.

DON'T MISS: TERRIFIC 90 MINUTES TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON!
"Stuffed-and-Starved: Markets, Power and the Hidden Battle for the World’s Food System" by Raj Patel Half the world is malnourished, the other half obese—both symptoms of the corporate food monopoly. To show how a few powerful distributors control the health of the entire world, Raj Patel conducts a global investigation, traveling from the “green deserts” of Brazil and protester-packed streets of South Korea to bankrupt Ugandan coffee farms and barren fields of India. What he uncovers is shocking—the real reasons for famine in Asia and Africa, an epidemic of farmer suicides, and the false choices and conveniences in supermarkets. Yet he also finds hope—in international resistance movements working to create a more democratic, sustainable, and joyful food system.
From seed to store to plate, Stuffed and Starved explains the steps to regain control of the global food economy, stop the exploitation of farmers and consumers, and rebalance global sustenance.

Naomi Klein and her husband Avi made a superb film, The Take, about how the people took over the factories and ran them without management! http://www.naomiklein.org/main Her "No Logo" tenth edition talks about how American Corporations went from making stuff to selling ideas and concepts and sending American jobs overseas to make stuff.
THE SHOCK DOCTRINE
THE RISE OF DISASTER CAPITALISM
"The only book of the last few years in American publishing that I would describe as a mandatory must-read. Literally the only one."
-Rachel Maddow
Around the world in Britain, the United States, Asia and the Middle East, there are people with power who are cashing in on chaos; exploiting bloodshed and catastrophe to brutally remake our world in their image. They are the shock doctors. Thrilling and revelatory, The Shock Doctrine cracks open the secret history of our era. Exposing these global profiteers, Naomi Klein discovered information and connections that shocked even her about how comprehensively the shock doctors' beliefs now dominate our world - and how this domination has been achieved. Raking in billions out of the tsunami, plundering Russia, exploiting Iraq - this is the chilling tale of how a few are making a killing while more are getting killed.
Hoodwinked: An Economic Hitman Reveals Why the World Financial Markets Imploded -- and What We Need to Do to Remake Them by John Perkins who previously wrote the best seller "Confessions of an Economic Hitman."
John Perkins was hired and trained by our National Security Agency NSA, our largest spy agency, to go to Third World countries and invite them to take out huge loans by the World Bank or IMF to build such expensive things as a dam to produce electricity or a factory to produce aluminum as they did in now bankrupt Iceland. Normally the bribe is ten percent of billions of dollars in loans. The money is kept in the USA or Europe to pay off the very high interest rates and when the countries are no longer able to pay the loans, they are offered another huge loan for "concessions" such as privatizing their public sector such as water utilities, pension plans, sewer systems, and even state owned raw material plants. Such was the case in Argentina where President Carlos Menem sold off almost all publicly owned necessary utilities for a huge bribe. When Argentina could not pay their IMF loan and had nothing else to sell, money was moved out of Argentina from USA owned banks in a caravan of trucks. http://www.booktv.org/Watch/11119/Hoodwinked+An+Economic+Hit+Man+Reveals+Why+the+World+Financial+Markets+Imploded+and+What+We+Need+to+Do+to+Remake+Them.aspx
