Physicist Muller is Only One Example of Corruption in Our Society

If you want to keep up with climate change, one good website is http://www.dailyclimate.org/frontpage/ .

My conclusion about famous physicist Richard Muller is the sad story that we are all corruptible. The only question is at what price. In the world of soundbites and low teacher pay and prestige, brought on by the Nixon and Reagan Revolution, which unfortunately changed our society from communities to individuals. A nationwide survey showed that most people seem to have only one person they can trust absolutely. I guess that leaves out parents and siblings.

Humans adjust their behavior to survive in marriages, neighborhoods, towns, states, government, corporations, and country.

I believe that President Lyndon Johnson may turn out to be one of our great Presidents in the future. Ever wondered why almost all Democrats get only one term?

Both Carter and Obama, according to Noam Chomsky, were supported for President after Republican Presidents screwed up. The Trilateral Commission (see below) poured money into Carter's campaign and Wall Street poured money into Obama's campaign. Obama now gets very little from Wall Street because he was too moral and cared about Americans who were not rich.
Since Nixon's went off the gold standard which limited the printing of money by the Federal Reserve which begun the change from a somewhat people based country to one based more and more on individual and corporate profits where the rich and powerful gained extraordinary ability to change our lives and fortunes. After 1970, the wages of a large majority of Americans, did not go up with productivity or profits, and now includes the bottom 99 percent. In order to be in the top one percent, a family has to make over $700,000/year! To be in the top 80 percent, a family has to make over $113,000/year! Very few Americans known these numbers and think they are much higher in the income hierarchy because they did not take into account inflation. The total wealth of the top one percent, especially the top 0.1 percent went up much faster because of a sharp drop in income taxes since Reagan and even more by Bush, jr.

I don't know if you are old enough to remember the issue of Time Magazine in the mid-1980s of the number of individuals who were forced out of government for corruption. It was page after page of head photos of the crooks in the administration. Greed and Crooks have the same meaning. Of course it started in the 1970s.

In the book by Michael Parenti, Democracy for The Few, 9th edition, 2011, his 267 page college textbook, he writes in such clarity that anyone can understand evidence he provides to prove his book title commentary. You will understand how our country is ruled by wealth and power at the expense of the bottom 99 percent.

Two books that changed me from a disinterested reader of political things were two books. One published in 1991 was Deterring Democracy by Noam Chomsky where I read the one circulating copy from the Los Angeles Central Library in early 2,000 after the Supreme court and Jeb Bush stolen election. It was a difficult read because most of the information came from declassified government documents which proved we had a fake Cold War to gain access to Oil and other natural resources with no consideration about whom we had to corrupt or kill or depose.

In 1975 after the Trilateral Commission consisting of leaders from Europe, USA, and Japan, convened to issue a document called The Crisis in Democracy authored by a Harvard Professor who trained most of the influential conservatives we now see on TV such as Zakaria on CNN and Time magazine. The largely successful goal was to alter the attitude and laws passed by President Johnson in the 1960s regarding democracy, minority and women rights and moved them into establishment thinking and acting.

Only those with the proper attitude got through the onerous Ph.D. qualifications and thesis grind.

Some of you may have heard about one graduate student from China at the University of Iowa that killed six professors and graduate students after they denied his thesis work which was brilliant. He contradicted the work of his thesis professor, a no, no for graduate students.

The same hold for corporations. When I questioned a "brilliant" endowed employee at a seminar, the management stopped inviting "others" to the seminars and criticized me. In grad school our professor enjoyed criticisms from us. That meant we were thinking, something becoming rare in our society.

The second book was published in 1995 which I found in bargain pile which cost me several dollars. It was When Corporations Rule the World by David C. Korten, 1995, 2001, you can still buy at www.amazon.com . It was written from a former Harvard Business School professor and based on his work in the Third World of providing aid to poor countries for our benefit. It opened my eyes to the fraud of our "humanitarian" policies in our globalization effort. I voted for Nader in 1996 as a registered Republican, and for Gore in 2000 because I knew that Bush would be a disaster and his pick for Supreme Court Justices would really be awful for our country. Unfortunately I was right.

In a long interview on the Martin Bashir Show on MSNBC with Mr. Louie moderating, Professor Muller talked about some work he knew was not knew that has been done by Climate scientists already. In order to keep his Koch Brother's funding intact, he also said that it has not clear that humans caused the warming. The research contradicts him a thousand times! Muller made the same conclusion that Palin had said in the past. It is not clear that humans caused global climate change!

I like the format for the UK Bashir Show at 3 PM ET and 12 PM PT MSNBC because unlike most shows on the news, he has extended interviews with BBC like followup questions and more than soundbites here so I can understand it better because of some background material and pointed questions.

It was obvious to me that either Muller was lying or was truly ignorant of the all the climate change work that had been done or he just lied. Yes, scientists do lie too if enough money is involved. He got a $150,000 grant from the Koch brothers for this work. The authentic Climate Scientists had over a million temperature data points. I still think it is politically stupid not to point out the warming of the Arctic Circle and equatorial tropical waters has had an enormous effect on climate change because a one degree increase in air temperature allows the atmosphere to hold 7 percent more moisture.

Our oceans can hold only so much carbon dioxide and a change in acidity near the shoreline indicates we are rapidly approaching a saturation point. Both wind and ocean currents are influenced by temperature which has already made our jet streams much more difficult to predict so we often get unexpected storms and droughts. Weekly predictions have become more difficult to do, especially in places like Oregon which gets wind from north, east, and southeast during the winter. We expect snow this week down to 2,000 ft and above.

Strong winds from the ocean and Oregon deserts makes predicting the weather quite difficult.

As a scientist and a voracious reader, this last work was obvious science that was considered and done already by many different techniques and corrections of a number of errors in the past.

Since Republican politicians all repeat the same soundbite script from the Heritage Foundation supported by the Koch brothers and other billionaires and large corporations such as Lockheed, it has become the most potent propaganda machine which is far superior to the Nazi propaganda which led to war in the same way Bush pushed us into the Iraq War. I was one of the few that knew Bush and Cheney were lying. The State Department experts were saying just the opposite but it was buried deep in the NY Times or ignored, but the Knight newspapers reported the truth more often. It was taken over by McClatchy.

It was a truly sad thing to watch.

Wikipedia: Career Richard A. Muller, University of California, Berkeley, Physicists

Muller obtained an A.B. degree at Columbia University (New York) and a Ph.D. degree in physics from University of California, Berkeley. Muller began his career as a graduate student under Nobel laureate Luis Alvarez doing particle physics experiments and working with bubble chambers. During his early years he also helped to co-create accelerator mass spectrometry and made some of the first measurements of anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background.
Subsequently, Muller branched out into other areas of science, and in particular the Earth sciences. His work has included attempting to understand the ice ages, dynamics at the core-mantle boundary, patterns of extinction and biodiversity through time, and the processes associated with impact cratering. One of his most well known proposals is the Nemesis hypothesis suggesting the Sun could have an as yet undetected companion dwarf star, whose perturbations of the Oort cloud and subsequent effects on the flux of comets entering the inner Solar System could explain an apparent 26 million year periodicity in extinction events.
In March 2011, he testified to the U.S. House Science, Space and Technology Committee that preliminary data confirmed an overall global warming trend.[1]
The 2011 Nobel laureate Saul Perlmutter was a graduate student under Muller at Berkeley.

[edit]Positions and recognition

Muller is a member of the JASON Defense Advisory Group, which brings together prominent scientists as consultants for the United States Department of Defense.

He was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow in 1982. He also received the Alan T. Waterman Award from the National Science Foundation "for highly original and innovative research which has led to important discoveries and inventions in diverse areas of physics, including astrophysics, radioisotope dating, and optics."
Muller is a founder and the current chairperson of the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature project, which intends to provide an independent analysis of the Earth's surface temperature records.
In 1999, he received a distinguished teaching award from UC Berkeley.[2] His "Physics for Future Presidents" series of lectures, in which Muller teaches a synopsis of modern qualitative (i.e. without resorting to complicated math) physics, has been released publicly on YouTube by UC Berkeley and has been published in book form. It has been one of the most highly regarded courses at Berkeley. In December 2009, Muller officially retired from teaching the course, although he still occasionally gives guest lectures.

[edit]MIT Technology Review

For several years, he was a monthly columnist with MIT's Technology Review. In his August 2003 column on the polygraph machine used in lie detection examinations, Muller asserted that "the polygraph procedure has an accuracy between 80 and 95 percent." The National Academy of Sciences found that there is "little basis for the expectation that a polygraph test could have extremely high accuracy."[3]
In a 2004 article[4], Muller supported the findings of Stephen McIntyre and Ross McKitrick in which they criticized the research, led by Michael E. Mann, which produced the so-called "hockey stick graph" of global temperatures over the past millennium [5] In response, Mann criticized Muller on his blog RealClimate.[6] Marcel Crok, a reporter for the Dutch popular science magazine Natuurwetenschap & Techniek, later did a story on the incident.[7]
In October 2011, Muller recanted his global warming skepticism in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal[8], saying "When we began our study, we felt that skeptics had raised legitimate issues, and we didn't know what we'd find. Our results turned out to be close to those published by prior groups. We think that means that those groups had truly been very careful in their work, despite their inability to convince some skeptics of that. They managed to avoid bias in their data selection, homogenization and other corrections. Global warming is real. Perhaps our results will help cool this portion of the climate debate. How much of the warming is due to humans and what will be the likely effects? We made no independent assessment of that." Although Muller's research was funded by the oil-billionaireKoch Brothers who profit from global-warming skepticism, Muller's detailed research of some 1.6 billion temperature records from more than 39,000 temperature-reporting stations worldwide, led him to conclude that the "hockey stick graph" of global temperatures that he had once criticized was accurate after all.[9][10] ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_A._Muller
